The duties of the radio operators will be communicating the runner’s progress back to the command post, and relaying the needs of the aid station personal back to the race organizers. We will also be letting the authorities know if there any emergencies needs. Beside the hams at the aid station they will also be manned by race volunteers that will handle the needs of the runners. Our job will be communications and supporting the aid station staff. This year I would like to keep track of drop out runner better. Please report all drop outs to the command station {Especially the 100k & 100 mile runners}. The aid stations will have a tent, table, and food for the runner {and Hams}. All the aid stations can be driven to, so your vehicle will be nearby, but the perfered operating position is aid station table. It will be good for the radio operators to bring some lawn chairs, and a mobile radio and a handheld HT. Aid Stations #1-Minerial Springs, #2-Trail Riders, #4-Heritage will have J-Pole antennas set up on mast at the aid station tables. The coax cable will have an PL-259 connection please bring any adapters you will need for connecting to the J-Pole.

The over night shift is shorter this year also. The Steel City Club has rented an 8 person cabin in the park. The saturday morning and over night shift get first dibs on the beds. All volunteers are welcome to hang out at the cabin before/after your shifts. We are thinking of having an special event station at the cabin. |
